Yesterday Solar Server published my full article on the Shams 1 CSP plant, the world’s largest concentrating solar power (CSP) plant and the first of its kind in the Middle East. While this article took longer than I would have liked to complete and publish, I believe that it represents the most complete coverage of the plant to date.
In the article, I look not only at some of the novel features of the technology, including the natural gas boost, but also the social and political context. In many ways, this plant is a legacy of the late Founding Father and President of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Enjoy. And feel free to post comments here, as Solar Server does not (Thank God) feature comments.
